Space Day Reflections

Today we became astronauts. In the first block we had to find out what is would be like to be an astronaut. Astronauts need to be fit and plan out their meals before they go into space. Did you know there is no sound in space?
It is really hard to do things with the astronaut clothes on because they are so big. It was really hard to pick up things with Miss Smith!
Astronauts have different jobs too. Some are scientists (people who discover new things), engineers( they fix and build things like the International Space Station) and there is always a doctor too in case someone gets sick!
After morning tea we BLASTED around the solar system to learn more about the planets.

We reflected on some of the facts we have learned using our White Thinking Hat.

Today I discovered that....
"You can only eat dried food in space," Eunseo.
"Bananas are not found out in space. They would get rotten!" Harrison.
"We discovered that you can't have fresh foods in space because they would get mouldy," Reilly. "You can't have bananas in space because they would get rotten," Zoey.
"Astronauts eat dried foods like died rice," Georgiana.
"I found out that you have to get a bag and put your drink in it and then drink it with a straw. Else, the drink would float about!" Ruby.
"Saturn has rings around it. They are made out of sand, dust and ice," Ben Bone.
"The sun is really, really hot. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun," Toby.
"Mercury is the smallest planet and it has craters," Benjamin.
"I found out that planet Saturn is dusty," Maggie.
"Astronauts have different jobs. They fix things and are called engineers," Milly.
"Space is really cold. Mercury is really cold when there is no sun on it," Bing Da.
"Venus goes around the sun faster than the Earth," Abby.
"Earth is the only place to have snow, grass and water," Hayley.
"Saturn has rings around it. Mercury is like the moon," Alex.

We had a very busy day! Talk to your child about other things they ahve found out and remember to use the links on our blog for cool websites.
