Planet Discovery

Today we learned about the planets in our solar system. We found out that the word solar means sun. There are 8 different planets in our solar system. Jupiter, Uranus, Mars, Venus, Saturn, Earth, Mercury and Neptune.
Here are some interesting facts we disovered when we read some books about planets. We live on the planet called Earth and it is the only planet that has water. Saturn is the only planet that has rings. Jupiter is the BIGGEST planet in our solar system and it has 4 main moons. It only takes Mercury 88 days to orbit the sun. The sun is a star and it is VERY VERY hot! It might look small but it is very big. It is the closest sun to us. What do you know about planets? We would love to fins out some more facts!! Happy blogging!

Mission into Space

We found out that the moon is made out of dust and rocks. There is no grass on the moon or air to breathe. Astronauts have a special helmet and air tanks to help them breathe.
It would take us 18 sleeps to get to the moon in a jet plane. There is not much gravity on the moon so astronauts can take really big floaty steps.
The moon has craters which are like holes in the surface of the moon. We acted out what it would be like to be an astronaut on the moon. We thought it would be sooo cool!!

Our learning week 4

Hayley liked painting her rocket ship. "I liked learning about the letters everyday." Georgiana. "I liked going to the library and reading lots of books." Reilly. Zoe particularly enjoyed making the paper and doing our family trees.
Next week we can't wait to learn more letters, and to find out more about space especially about the world and the sun. We are going to watch how the sun changes or shadows during the day and do some wonderings about the sun and the stars. You might like to have a look at the night sky tonight! You could post some of your wondering on our blog. We would love to hear from you. Have a great weekend everyone!

WOW! What a great start to the term

We have been so busy over the past 4 weeks at school and it has been great to see the children settle into school with ease.
Last week we had our cultural Celebration which saw us flying our kites with our parents. We loved having you all along to share our learning with you. Our Cultural Cafe was a nice way for us to sit together and enjoy our shared lunch too.
Over the next few weeks we will continue to learn more about ourselves and how we can learn best at school. During our 'Discovery Time' in the afternoon we will also have the opportunity to start to learn about our Sun and stars. You might like to observe the night sky and talk with your child about what they can see.
